A Little Help From A Friend
One of my good friends has become my coach. I have always had great coaches. But I was so delighted this year not to have one and not to be accountable to anyone. But I was really just kidding myself. Jim Bitsko has been a mentor, friend and running partner for a while. And he would often council me on what I was doing wrong. I'm really a bad listener. Around late April last year I told him I wanted to do Peachtree. We had very little time and as usual I was out of shape. Jim started suggesting what I might do to get fit. About a week before the race we both realized I wasn't where I needed to be. He suggested I rest that week. Against my better judgment I avoided using this last week to train and instead rested. Peachtree went great! From then on I listened to Jim... Set some records, a pr and met my goals. So I guess you could say I don't have a coach but someone else is driving the ship. I think with Jim's help 2011 is going to be great! If you have a fitness goal you're reaching for, seek out a wise mentor, an experienced coach or a personal trainer. It may be just what you need take you over the top.
