Destination // Santorini
On my recent visit to Santorini one of highlights of the trip was watching the world renowned sunsets from Amoudi Bay. Most tourists sit on the cliffs of Oia to watch the sunset… It’s beautiful there, but to escape the crowds, walk down the 270 steps to the port of Amoudi, a small traditional fishing area. If you’re not up for walking, you can take a taxi each way or a donkey ride!
Once you reach the port, you can watch the sunset from one of the seafood tavernas on the water and enjoy fresh caught fish with some local wine and beer. You don’t need a reservation, but if you call ahead you will be guaranteed a table with a great view.
For a little more adventure you can book a sunset cruise or take the path south of the restaurants about 5 minutes to take a dip in the water. And for those who like to tease the senses, take a night walk up the steps... Remember to bring a flashlight or keep some battery life on your phone, or you may end up home with a nice donkey surprise under your shoe! It was definitely one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences in Santorini.
