Since opening our Pure Barre studio last June, my biggest personal satisfaction is derived from the many daily interactions with our wonderful clients, from which I learn something new every day! Not too long ago one of those dear clients arrived a bit early to class and headed into the studio. I walked in shortly thereafter to find her literally sprawled out on the floor. I asked her “rough day?” Her response was very poignant and really made me think about my own actions. She said “No, but this is the only place that no one can get to me for one hour so I take it for all that its worth”. I loved it. I loved that she set aside this hour just for herself where she could step away and have “me” time. We all need it! So, I started to think, when is my “me” time. I began to realize that I never truly disconnect from all of life distractions! If I was taking a class at the studio I was always up front working the front desk until the second class started. If I was going for a quick run I had my phone so I could listen to music! Bottom line, I was always “available” for everything but me! On that day I made a pact with myself. I too was going to head into the studio several minutes early and either sprawl out on the open floor or maybe chitchat with my fellow barre mate. I encourage you to disconnect too. Leave the cell phone in the car. If you arrive early to your workout, don’t hide in the car. Walk in and take the time to get to know the person that you sweat next to every day! Invest in yourself and the others around you. If it has been one of those days, sprawl out on the floor, close your eyes, and unwind.
