Summer is officially here. You know what that means: more time outdoors = even more hydration. To keep your body working at its optimal level, it needs regular fluid intake to stay hydrated.
Drink 2-3 ounces of water every 30 minutes. If you are sweating, drink that amount every 15 minutes. Keep track if you have to!
Avoid sugary drinks, like sodas and sweetened teas. Instead, try unsweetened iced teas. You can find teas in many varieties - herbal, spiced, fruity, even chocolate!
Instead of reaching for a sports drink with added sugar, sodium, and artificial colors and flavors, opt for coconut water. Taken from real coconuts, coconut water hydrates the body with more naturally occurring potassium than bananas!
Finally, elevate your water by adding fresh fruit slices, like oranges, lemons, and limes. Add some zing to your water by adding sliced ginger and lime. For a refreshing option, add cucumber and fresh mint leaves. Try mixing up different fruits, veggies, and herbs to find your favorite combination! This way you get optimal taste without the added calories.
