"I Can Sleep On My Back Now"

"I Can Sleep On My Back Now"

Every day people approach me at my Pure Barre studio and tell me things that make my heart soar. While many of us workout to look slender and fit, I forget how profound practicing something like pure barre can be for someone that can ultimately have nothing to do with vanity. Today I had a wonderful client approach me after class to tell me that, for the first time in "a million years," she can sleep comfortably on her back. Before Pure Barre she was unable to lie on her back, let along sleep on it. And now, she can do both. Comfortably. This interaction prompted me to reminisce a bit over the year gone by. I began to realize that this is not the first time I have heard a story like this. Over the 12 months since the Los Angeles studio came into existence, many people have told me that Pure Barre has changed them: I had a woman tell me that she's had knee pain since she was 16 and now, at the ripe young age of 40, she no longer feels any of that pain. I had a man tell me he's always wanted to touch his toes. And now he can. I've had another young lady tell me that she nearly resorted to hip surgery and then found Pure Barre. Is it magic? Maybe. It works. That's one thing I do know.

So we'll continue to tuck away in order to slim our thighs and squeeze our seats to tighten up our backsides so we can see those inevitably impressive results in the mirror. But on a special day like this I remember that there are those subtle, yet life changing things that occur from practicing Pure Barre that can be equally as profound. I can see every day, through the amazing people that pass through my studio doors, that sometimes the little changes that this exercise regiment can bring about can make such a huge impact on our every day lives. There is pain and suffering all around us, but on a day like today I know that what I do, on some level, makes a difference. And somewhere out there in this fair city of angels, there is a wonderful woman who will fall asleep tonight, comfortably, and for the first time, on her back.
