My 7 Favorite Healthy Snacks

Variety is the spice of life, but consistency makes life easier. I find that having 6 to7 go-to snacks means you always have a healthy option to choose. And don’t worry about a lack of variety.  My client, Jennifer Garner, ate yogurt and berries as her morning snack every day for a year. I was on an apple and almond butter kick for months. It doesn’t have to be forever, but pick your favs and stick with them for a month.

Here are 7 of my all-time best snacks:

Almonds + Gogi Berries + Dark Chocolate Covered Cacao Nibs Put 3 superfoods together and what do you get? A super snack! This has been my go-to snack for a while now. I’ll make up 10 snack baggies at a time. This snack is great because it’s got a little crunch and a little sweet and doesn’t have to be refrigerated.

Greek Yogurt and Berries With up to twice as much protein as regular yogurt and less carbohydrates, Greek Yogurt will help you feel full and leave you feeling satisfied. Berries are high in antioxidants, vitamins and taste, while low on the glycemic index. This way, you can enjoy a delicious and fulfilling snack without feeling guilty.

Celery and Almond Butter Celery is high in dietary fiber as well as Vitamin A, B2, B5, B6, C and K. Almonds are rich in monounsaturated fat, meaning they help lower LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol). I love the crunch of the celery with the creaminess of the almond butter. Bonus tip: Be sure to use all natural almond butter. The only ingredient should be almonds, and maybe a little bit of salt.

Cherry Berry Cacao Kapow Smoothie My client Poppy Montgomery loves this smoothie. It’s packed with antioxidants, protein and a whole lot of delish. I recommend this delicacy as the perfect morning snack or post workout drink. See how it’s made:

Turkey Cheese Roll Up This snack sounds almost too good to be healthy. Turkey is a low fat, high protein food, but the beauty of this snack is its simplicity. Take a piece of turkey; add a slice of cheese and it up. It’s that easy.  Bonus tip: Be sure to choose oven-roasted turkey over pre-packaged deli meat.

Banana & Peanut Butter: This classic snack works when I need something a little heavier. Use all natural peanut butter and enjoy!

Chicken Tenders or other lunch leftovers

Snacks don’t have to be complicated. That chopped salad you had for lunch but didn’t finish? It’s a great afternoon snack. I’d recommend always making a little extra at dinner, and saving the leftovers for a snack the next day.
