It's that time of year again. The time we reflect on the previous year and set goals for the new year. But how many times have we made a resolution/goal, only to give up or forget about it by the end of January? Two of the most common resolutions are to "lose weight" and "get fit." These are great goals and they are attainable! By making a few small changes over time - instead of huge drastic changes - you will be more successful in achieving your resolutions.
Here are some small changes you can make towards the goals of getting fit and losing weight:
1) Stay hydrated. The body is made up of mostly water and your organs, muscles, and brain need water to function optimally. The body can get dehydrated easily, leading to fatigue and headaches. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times. Refill it 8-10 times each day. Put a little dot or sticker on the bottle each time you refill it to mark your progress. Staying hydrated can help curb hunger; giving you a feeling of being fuller longer. This helps prevent unnecessary snacking throughout the day.
2) Remove some extra sugar and calories from your diet by making your own coffee once or twice a week. We all love those yummy mochas, flavored lattes, and frappucinos from our local coffee shop, but they are full of extra calories, fat, and sugar. Replace that morning coffee run with a homemade cup of joe and save the coffee shop visit for a special occasion or treat. Your body and your wallet will thank you!
3) Not sure where to start with the "get fit" goal? Ask yourself this: Have you been itching to try Zumba, salsa, yoga, spinning, or boot camp classes? Ever wonder if you could finish a half marathon or mini-tri? Wonder no more! This is the year to pick a new fitness class or exercise program to embark on. If you enjoy your new work out or class, it won't seem like a chore to do each week. You will look forward to it! Set small goals for yourself along the way- weekly or monthly. Have a friend or family member start with you. You can hold each other accountable, challenge each other, get in shape together, and have fun together.
4) As you find yourself getting more fit and healthy as the year progresses, make sure you clean out your closet! Get rid of clothes that are too big. There is no need to hang on to them. Have fun shopping for new Splits59 clothes to workout and feel good in! Wishing you health and happiness in the New Year!
