I've been teaching spinning classes for about 17 years and I still make a new play list and workout routine for almost every workout! Lately, almost all of my classes include at least one round of Tabata Training. Tabata training is great for burning fat and the protocol is a unique and extremely intense interval training method that takes literally only four minutes to complete. Regular Tabata training can improve maximum aerobic capacity (measurement of the body's ability to take in oxygen) as well as anaerobic capacity (measurement of speed endurance). These high intensity intervals cause you to burn off all the blood sugar it has. This energy that has been lost needs to be replaced and your body will do this by burning fat. The key is not to burn fat while you are exercising but to burn off carbohydrates as fuel while you are exercising. The original Tabata protocol calls for 8 intervals of 20 second high intensity sprints followed by 10 seconds of rest... four minutes total. The secret to making this effective is to go all out, working as hard as you can for that 20 seconds and then rest for 10 seconds and repeat 8 times. The benefits are worth it!
