It is a common belief that in order to "be good" at yoga you must be flexible! Not true! Yoga helps increase flexibility, strength, endurance and peace of mind! Yoga actually boosts levels of feel-good brain chemicals like GABA, serotonin and dopamine which help you to feel relaxed, calm and content. Yoga works in the same way that anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs work! WOW should I say that again? Yoga works in the same way that anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs work!
Yoga suppresses stress and stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system which calms us down and restores balance. Our bodies are better able to digest and absorb nutrients, eliminate toxins, decrease heart rate and lower blood pressure, increase circulation and boost immune function. Further research suggest that yoga decreases inflammation in the body. Inflammation is linked to many health problems including heart disease, diabetes and depression! WOW! All of that and might have thought yoga was just for flexible people. Yoga is about balancing and healing the body. Happy practicing.......
